Weekly Insight: Wayfaring

Updated: Jul 14

"Wayfaring" refers to the act of traveling, especially over long distances or through unfamiliar terrain. It can symbolize life's journey with its twists, turns, and discoveries along the way.

When I think of my journey, I see an image of the dragonfly that symbolizes transformation, adaptability, and self-realization. It's often seen as a symbol of change and renewal due to its ability to navigate through different stages of life, from nymph to adult, and its graceful flight. In some cultures, it represents power, agility, and the connection between the earthly and spiritual realms.  The dragonfly is associated with agility, joy, and living in the moment, reminding us to embrace change and find joy in life's journey.

As a successful healthcare executive, I felt I was within reach of all the goals I had to work towards. I had a job I loved, worked with a great team of people I respected, and felt I was serving my community.

Then it happened. I found a lump in my armpit.

I went to my doctor, and through multiple tests, I found out I had CANCER. My mind told me CANCER MEANS DEATH.

My mindset was locked. I quickly realized I needed to change my attitudes, beliefs, and ways of thinking.

The treatment was aggressive and made me ill. In the bleakest hours, I was alone, nauseous, trying to find a way to get through this and to live.

I realized I needed to change my thinking and fight like hell!  I needed to reset my mind to know this was only a setback I wanted to live. I took the stance of a warrior. I worked on my vision of the future. I worked on establishing steps to improve my health, and I worked on visualizing the end of the cancer cells destroying my body.

When I was first diagnosed with lymphoma, my husband bought me a bracelet with a dragonfly charm. It was my symbol of hope that became a beacon of light that helped me find my way through the chemotherapy and radiation, fighting my way back to health and hope.

I believe in the power of the human soul that delivers results. I believe in the innate power we have within ourselves to change our mindset, motivation and strategies to become what we want to be.

Do you have desires to conquer a habit or self-belief that will give you the breakthrough you want and launch you to master an area of your life or career?
