The traditional concept of work-life balance often falls short in addressing the complexities of modern life. It implies a rigid separation between different areas of life and suggests that equal time and energy should be devoted to each. This is something I always felt was difficult. Something would come up at work or at home that would need my attention. By scheduling a specific times for my day to end meant I often extended and missed the next thing I was to do at home. This resulted in constant feelings of guilt, inadequacy, and constant stress. I felt I wasn’t giving to all the projects in front of me. At the same time. I felt that some of the projects I was working on that I put energy into were not as important. My values dictated that my family was a priority, and demands from home needed to be weighed against the priorities at work.


Instead of striving for balance, which may be unattainable and even undesirable, I learned to focus on alignment, which allowed for more flexibility and integrated approach to life and work. I determined what my values and purpose was and worked on projects that fit within my core values. I would drop other projects that did not align with who I was. Flexibility and alignment allowed me to put more time in one area while others had less time and then realign my priorities.



The Power of Personal Alignment

Personal alignment involves ensuring that your actions, goals, and values are in harmony. When these elements are aligned, you experience a sense of purpose, fulfillment, and authenticity in your daily life.

  2. Set Aligned Goals: Ensure that your short-term and long-term goals reflect your core values.

For instance, if personal growth and learning are core values, you might set a goal to acquire a new skill each quarter. Your actions would then include dedicating time for study, seeking mentorship, and applying your new knowledge in practical ways.
