The core values on which we founded Karma Coaching Insights are highlighted in the term GET IT. The first value is a Growth Mindset, which I have discussed in previous posts. The second one is Empowerment.
Empowerment is gaining confidence, control, and influence over our lives and decisions. It involves being equipped with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to make informed choices and take actions that affect our personal and professional lives.
I went back to work when my youngest child went into grade one. A few years into my work at the hospital, there was a management upheaval, an investigation, and a termination. I was asked to step in as a manager. The position was imposed on me, so I lacked my own Internal motivation and had very little confidence to do the job. I was told I was the only one who could take on the job who wasn't involved in the investigation. I had to dig deep as I knew I had the job for six months. All the staff at this large facility were depending on me.
I asked several people for help. An HR officer in the hospital decided to take me on and train me. Through her coaching and mentoring, I gained confidence, control and influence over what happened at that facility. She showed me the tools I could use to help ease my way and how to develop a balance between home and work. I became empowered! I will ever be grateful to her.
